Whip Up Some Body Butter

**this is a long overdue post cause I’ve been taking time to relax**

I made some rose petal infused oil a while back so that I could use it to make some rose body butter. Body butters are general made with two types of oil – oils that remain solid at room temperature and oils that are liquid at room temperature.

Both shea butter and cocoa are wonderful to use as the solid base. For the liquid oil, you can use olive oil, grapeseed oil, almond oil, or my favorite, jojoba oil.

I already used jojoba oil to make my infused rose oil and I love shea butter so that decision is already made for me. If the jojoba oil is not rosy enough, you can add some drops of rose essential oil to boost the scent.

I like to use 2 parts solid base to 1 part liquid. For this recipe, lets use –

  • 2 cups of shea butter
  • 1 cup of infused rose jojoba oil
  • 10 drops of rose essential oil (if needed)
  • 1 capsule of vitamin E oil (if you so desire)

For equipment, you will need a double boiler, a glass or metal bowl, and hand or stand mixer (which ever one you have).

Slowly melt the shea butter and rose oil together in the double boiler stirring occasionally. Once fully melted, pour into a bowl and let it cool for a few minutes. If you wish to add the rose essential oil or the vitamin E (helps the body butter to last a bit longer), wait until the melted oils have cooled down.

Place the bowl in the refrigerator for at least two hours or until all but the middle is solidified. Use your mixer to whip up the butter until it is fluffy and beautiful. Place in jars with covers and store in a cool dry place. The body butter make look thick but it will melt into your skin as soon as you use it.

You can use this so very easy recipe to make body butters using a variety of ingredients and scents. These are great for gifts too.
